Trace and his band dropped their album almost a year ago, but their song Shake It has recently become a hit. According to USA Today, the song has sold close to one million downloads and the album has sold 130,000 copies. It’s also currently No. 10 on the newspapers airplay chart.
Trace Cyrus was born February 24, 1989 which makes his age 19. He and Miley Cyrus have the same mother, Leticia Finley Cyrus, and he was adopted by Billy Ray as a young boy.
Trace and his music definitely have a different sound and target audience than Hannah Montana. That’s probably obvious at first glance when you see Trace’s arms and chest covered in tattoos. He also has “Stay Gold? across both sets of knuckles. Not exactly Disney. Metro Station is electo/pop and been compared to The Cars. In fact, the band lists a few 80s musical influences.
“We’re big fans of The Cars, The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode,” says singer/guitarist Mason Musso. “We do bring a very ’80s element to our music.”
As far as his family’s success goes, Trace has collaborated with Miley on a song for the new Hannah Montana movie but is anxious to make his own musical mark.
“I wanted to see how long we could go without anybody knowing,? Cyrus said. “It’s not like I didn’t want to be associated with that, but I didn’t want to be put in a genre where I had to be ‘Approved for mothers and 12-year-olds.’ I want to be myself.?
It sounds like Metro Station is well on it’s way. The band was conceived out of a jam session with Mason Musso set up by their mothers. Mason’s brother stars with Miley. A Columbia record deal followed and they have been touring throughout the summer on the Soundtrack of Your Life Tour with bands like Boys Like Girls, Good Charlotte, and The Maine. The band does not have a shortage of female fans from the looks of their MySpace page. Although, Trace is rumored to be dating Scene Girl Hanna Beth.
